Law Enforcement Agency
The Situation:
A Police Department was renovating their communications center and an opportunity to organize their records and increase their filing space was introduced.
The Police Department had been storing all of their records in banker boxes on lateral filing cabinets in a 15’ x 20’ area with roughly 7,000 linear filing inches. All of the department’s case records, financial records, police reports and town court records were stored in top-tab manila folders inside these boxes.
The filing became extremely difficult to manage and space was at a minimum. A change was necessary.
The Solution:
After seeing an Oblique installation in person, the Police Chief was convinced that it was the solution that his department was looking for. A variety of Unifile V-base and 3" box-base compartments were used in addition to mechanical assist mobile shelving to make the installation a reality. Using the same space as the previous filing method, the new system was able to increase filing inches by 30% to over 10,000 linear filing inches. This made it possible to bring all of the records to one central location instead of filing them wherever there was room in the station. The Police Chief was extremely happy that he was able to convert from a top-tab environment without having to convert all of their folders. This "direct file transfer" was able to save the department money and time during the renovation.
The Police Department was able to transition from their previous filing method to the Oblique Filing System with ease. The system is accessed by 6-8 people regularly throughout a given day and is extremely efficient, making it very easy to manage documents and records. The ease of refilling and of the initial conversion makes the system a great fit for the Police Department.
